Rising from the ashes of the iconic Cage Rage promotion,
Ultimate Challenge UK has
firmly set its stall out as one of the most popular fight nights in London for MMA fans. In
only its third instalment the card showcased some of the rising talent the promotion
has to offer along side some crowd favourites from their days as Cage Rage.
Titled "Relentless" a more appropriate name for the show given the
performance of the headline bout would have been "Beatdown". The main
event featured rising light heavyweight prospect Jimmy "The Poster boy"
Manuwa against Cage Rage and former FX3 light heavyweight champion Ryan
Robinson for the vacant Light Heavyweight strap. From the start of the bout it
was clear that Manuwa possessed the superior stand up, and set to work
dismantling Robinson with some vicious shots that left Robinson clearly hurt.
Unsteady on his feet after a barrage of punches, Robinson looked for salvation
by trying to take Manuwa to the floor but was thwarted by some impressive
sprawling that left Robinson wondering what he could do to turn this contest
around. The end was not far off, and with Robinson staggering around the cage
after another pounding attack from the Poster boy, referee Grant Waterman had
no choice but to wave the contest off with Manuwa taking the win and the Light
Heavyweight belt in convincing fashion.
In the co main event of the evening, Cage Rage veteran and crowd favourite Jean
"The White Bear" Silva made a welcome return to action after a
lengthy layoff with a knee injury sustained at Cage Rage 25 in his unsuccessful
attempt to take the World Featherweight belt away from holder Mazakuza Imanari.
Up against AJ Wenn who recently featured on season 9 of The Ultimate Fighter
reality show, Silva showed why his ground game is so feared taking the win
comfortably.
Another notable contest that turned into a 3 round war was
the fight between Jermaine Facey against Team Titan product Michael Pastou..
Both fighters went to war during all three rounds with each man having his own successes.
It was clear from the action that Pastou had the skill and strength advantage
in the wrestle, while Facey looked dangerous standing with some good Muay Thai
work. In the end it was Pastou’s takedowns that sealed the victory with both
men acknowledging each others efforts at the end of the fight.
As usual Primal Fight Gear had its stand at the show selling
all its existing and new design. Definitely our current best sellers are the
new “Brazillia” T shirts and our FG Premium mma fight shorts. Primal will be
showcasing some of its new 2009 designs at the next Ultimate Challenge event “Heat”
which will be held at the Troxy on Saturday July 11th so we look
forward to seeing you there.
